1. What This Extension Does

Smart Cookie Cleaner is a browser cookie management tool that helps you automatically delete cookies when you close tabs, manage whitelists of trusted domains, and keep your browsing data clean. It operates entirely within your browser.

2. Permissions Explained

cookies — Required to read and delete browser cookies. This is the core function of the extension.
tabs — Required to detect when you close a tab and identify which domain was associated with it, so we can clean the corresponding cookies.
storage — Required to save your settings (whitelist, preferences) locally on your device. We use chrome.storage.sync (for cross-device settings sync via your Google account) and chrome.storage.local (for statistics).
alarms — Required to schedule delayed cookie cleanup and periodic maintenance tasks.
host_permissions (<all_urls>) — Required because cookies can belong to any domain. To clean cookies from any website you visit, the extension needs access to all URLs. We do NOT read or modify page content.
notifications (optional) — Only requested if you enable cleanup notifications. Used to show a brief notification when cookies are deleted.

3. Data We Access

Browser cookies — Read to count and display; deleted based on your settings and whitelist configuration.
Tab URLs — Read only to extract the domain name (e.g., "example.com"). The full URL is not stored.

4. Data We Store Locally

Your whitelist — Domain names you choose to protect (stored in chrome.storage.sync)
Your settings — Preferences like cleanup delay, notification toggle (stored in chrome.storage.sync)
Cleanup statistics — Number of cookies deleted, cleanup count (stored in chrome.storage.local)
Tab-domain mapping — Temporary mapping of open tabs to domains (stored in chrome.storage.session, cleared on browser restart)
Greylist — Temporarily protected domains (stored in chrome.storage.session, cleared on browser restart)

5. Data We Do NOT Collect

  We do NOT send any data to external servers
We do NOT track your browsing history
We do NOT collect analytics or telemetry
We do NOT share data with third parties
We do NOT store cookie contents — we only count and delete them
We do NOT read or modify webpage content

6. Third-Party Services

The Pro upgrade feature uses ExtensionPay (powered by Stripe) for payment processing. When you choose to upgrade, you interact directly with ExtensionPay/Stripe. We do not handle or store any payment information. Please refer to Stripe's Privacy Policy for their data practices.

7. Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device (or synced via your Google account through Chrome's built-in sync). Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. Synced data can be managed through your Chrome sync settings.

8. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
